The facility to pay tribute to victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake, and teaches lessons of the earthquake to future generations.
The Memorial Monument to the Great East Japan Earthquake
This monument has nameplates of the people who become victims of the
disaster and flower stands to console their spirits.
The Tsunami Height Monument
This is the monument which shows tsunami flooding height (11m above sea
level) of Unosumai Station area. It was built to convey the remembrance of the disaster.
The monument to Citizens’ Charter for Disaster Prevention
The monument is inscribed with Kamaishi Citizens’ Charter for disaster prevention.
It is built as a pledge of the consensus of the citizens to save future lives from all kinds of disasters.
The momument to the site of the disaster prevention center
The Monument is written that it is the site of the disaster prevention center
where many people evacuated and lost their lives in the Great East Japan Earthquake.
釜石市防災市民憲章命を守る
釜石市は、2011年３月11 日に発生した東日本大震災により、千人を超（こ）える尊い命を喪（うしな）った。その悲しみが、癒（い）えることは決してない。
しかし、古来（こらい）より、先人（せんじん）たちが、度重（たびかさ）なる災害や戦災をたくましく乗り越（こ）えてきたように、今、私たちは、ふるさと復興への途（みち）を歩み続けている。
自然は恵（めぐ）みをもたらし、ときには奪（うば）う。
海、山川と生き、その豊かさを享受（きょうじゅ）してきたこの地で安全に暮らし続けていくためには、また起こるであろうあらゆる災害に対し、多くの教訓を生かしていかなければならない。
未来の命を守るために、私たちは、後世に継承（けいしょう）する市民総意の誓いをここに掲（かか）げる。
